And several soon to be grandma's ask me about comfort and several dad's look longingly at my giggling Muppet in lieu of their screaming stroller bound kids. And meanwhile I'm doing a string of "excuse me. excuse me. 'scuse me" while dodging carts and strollers and being able to GO.
I told one lady who asked that we were very comfy, "it's handsfree. How else do you deal with a baby who wants to see everything from your level? Or when you can't take a huge stroller (like the market!)? Or when he's sleepy but can't fall asleep? Or when he's being a pain but I mean really he's nine months old and you can't lock him in another room? (that's why the back carry was invented--he's close but you don't have to deal with him). I just got a Girasol woven wrap (Felice colorway) and I'm hearting it (so beautiful! so versatile!), but I also love my mei tai. I know people love ring slings, but J never liked cradle carries and the most use it's gotten is as a sleeping hood for the wrap ;) We used our stretchy wrap a TON when he was a newborn, but when he hit about 15 pounds (oh, thirty seconds after birth) the mei tai was way more comfortable. My husband loves it--it's really his mei tai.Allyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05500121581003861195noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2799685441547308974.post-3568005719622791032010-01-18T17:52:09.138-08:002010-01-18T17:52:09.138-08:00oh how I love the moby. it was the best $40 I'...oh how I love the moby. it was the best $40 I've ever spent. since I don't have a car, I can't imagine hauling a stroller everywhere. When I had my baby shower someone got my a hotslings so I tried that one, then i tried the infantino sling which I didn't like, finally i bought an ellaroo wrap and it's been my favorite. it's a lot easier to use and has more positions for carrying than the others.osodemadrehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10830493409694934060noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2799685441547308974.post-5012500556612583502010-01-16T11:11:23.949-08:002010-01-16T11:11:23.949-08:00I spend all my time kissing the baby's head wh...I spend all my time kissing the baby's head when they're in the sling :)Flamehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11179773852374671802noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2799685441547308974.post-48576963474383102082010-01-16T06:25:50.593-08:002010-01-16T06:25:50.593-08:00@Anonymous- The reasoning behind avoiding a frank...@Anonymous- The reasoning behind avoiding a frank front facing position has to do with stimulation. Have you noticed that when a baby is being held, and a someone walks up to talk, the babe will often hide his face against his caregiver. The same happens when a baby feels over-stimulated. If you carry full front facing, then your baby has no options for 'hiding'.
Ways to carry a baby that enjoys looking around: Hip carry, side sitting cradle, high back carry.

Back carries are fantastic. When your little one gets tired of looking they can snuggle into your back and rest. I will get double-takes and so many "Awwwws" from people. It just gives everyone in general a nice, warm feeling to see a mother carrying her infant as opposed to leaving them in their carrier in the cart.

Hubby hasn't tried it yet. I'll have to see if he'll try it tonight. I think it's important for Dads to wear them as well because babies weren't carried by Daddy for 9 months. They were just a fuzzy voice from The Outside. I personally love the pouch sling and the didymos wrap! It'll burn a nice hole in your wallet, but, come on.. when it comes to these things, it's worth it! I didn't like the moby because it was too much material, so for his infancy I held him, sometimes put him in the baby bjorn. Mostly I just held him. Once he got a little older (4 months) I got a little custom made shoulder sling from e-bay and for long walks a mei tai style carrier. Now that he's a little older and heavier (21 months, 23 pounds, I make 'em small) I wear him in a BabyErgo and I think it's the best carrier on Earth. I can carry him for long stretches and long walks with zero back pain or shoulder pain!Camillehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12754702372621134537noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2799685441547308974.post-42630543170815938422010-01-15T08:29:57.309-08:002010-01-15T08:29:57.309-08:00I didnt really get inot baby wearing because i bou...I didnt really get inot baby wearing because i bought a $30 baby wrap from toys r us and it sucked. maybe i am just doing it wrong but i do not think i am. it loosens and he starts to fall towards my knees. for my next baby i am going to just splurge the extra money for a moby wrap or the blingy one lolFlorida Science https://www.blogger.com/profile/15033711987905444420noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2799685441547308974.post-9071828235450183002010-01-15T08:17:13.543-08:002010-01-15T08:17:13.543-08:00I ♥ Babywearing! Alas, I didn't know about slings then so we used a snuggli and then transitioned to a Sarah's Ride (sort of an odd contraption that rests on the mama's hip), and then a backpack carrier.

With my middle child I used a traditional ring sling, an Over the Shoulder Baby Holder sling, and a backpack carrier.

The youngest - oh did she have the carriers! LOL We used her big sis's slings and then added in a Hmong traditional carrier and a mei tei.

I tried a wrap with my middle child and never got the hang of it and she hated it (probably due to my confusion).

I want an Ergo if I have the good fortune to have another child.kariwhitehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06208108715229081779noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2799685441547308974.post-66668599819275475172010-01-15T07:30:22.678-08:002010-01-15T07:30:22.678-08:00I wish I had know about BWing 10 year ago with my ...I wish I had know about BWing 10 year ago with my oldest. At night when he was fussy, I would put him in the moby wrap and he would fall asleep on my chest and my hands were free to crochet or hold a book to read. It was very convenient.
